British YPG To Open A Pharmacy
It has often been said that there is no incentive for young pharmacists to set up or buy a new community pharmacy. Despite having creative ideas and wanting to press forward the frontiers of community pharmacy, financial reasons as well as long term insecurities mean that very few young pharmacists find it attractive to join the ranks of business owners.
The Young Pharmacists Group in Great Britain has come up with a plan to acquire and operate a model community pharmacy. The group is currently raising funds to make their dream reality.
"The YPG pharmacy will be a pharmacy laboratory" said YPG Pharmacy Project Manager Mark Koziol, "where various approaches will be put on trial, mistakes made and evaluated and best practices identified."
The business will be run by a management board including young pharmacists and pharmacy students and have input from a panel with experience in various fields. All profits raised for the business will be re-invested to provide support for lectures, workshops, research projects and community pharmacy initiatives.
This is just one example of creative thinking which has been put into innovative practice. The Steering Committee of the FIP Young Pharmacists Group would like to hear from young pharmacists around the world who are thinking creatively no matter which area of practice. Their efforts may be recognized in the Young Pharmacists/Pharmaceutical Scientists Award for professional innovation.
