Update from the FIP Young pharmacists’ Group – Den Haag, The Netherlands
By: Danielle Zammit, Pharm D

FIP-YPG Steering Committee 2001-2002

The FIP YPG is currently trying to provide a channel for younger pharmacists around the world to gain insights into different areas of pharmacy. A key way to do this is by working within the different sections of FIP: Academia, Administration, Clinical Biology, Community/Retail, Hospital, Industry, Laboratory and Medicinal Control, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Pharmacy information and Emergency Pharmacy. Another group is the Women in Pharmacy Group, who are actively promoting leadership in young female pharmacists.

The Hague was the site for the meeting of the FIP-YPG Steering Committee March 21-25, 2002. Cold but sunny, it was a very successful meeting with much achieved. The meeting was held at the same time as the FIP Board of Pharmacy Practice and the Executive Committee of the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation. This facilitated the optimization of interchanging ideas and working together.

The agenda was varied, but exciting at every turn. Projects are taking off, with the Database of registration criteria worldwide being built and the Database of post-graduate education opportunities about to be launched. The first Award for Professional Innovation should be presented during the FIP Congress in Nice, and the website will be updated with information from an endeavor to facilitate career development and successful mobility experiences.

The program for Nice was developed and work has started on the program of activities for the FIP Congress in Sydney in 2003. It’s an exciting time to be a young pharmacist. Mobility is being facilitated, resulting in more sharing of experiences and learning from each other.
