NICE 2002 – The Upcoming World Congress of Pharmacy
By Danielle Zammit, Pharm. D.
The FIP Young
Pharmacists Group is looking forward to an exciting week in Nice, France. The
program of events scheduled during the World Congress of pharmacy is set to make
the experience fulfilling for anyone attending.
The first Award for Professional Innovation will be presented during this FIP
Congress. We are very happy with the response to this project, which, although
still in its infancy, captured the imagination of caring young pharmacists all
over the world. The YPG Assembly will convene and the postgraduate education
database project will be launched during the YPG Forum.
This forum will be a highlight of the activities. In line with the FIP
document: ‘Good Pharmacy Education Practice’, the seven star pharmacist is
expected to be, amongst other roles, a life long learner. To fulfill this role,
pharmacists must possess the concepts and principles of, and a commitment to,
lifelong learning as a means of fulfilling and advancing their practice and
professional role in society. Guest speaker, Rose Marie Parr, from the UK, will
give a lecture outlining the importance of continuing professional development.
Interactive workshops will follow, which will allow participants to assess their
own learning needs and apply techniques to develop an individual learning plan.
So that participants may relax with their colleagues in an informal atmosphere,
the forum will be followed by an international social dinner, held in
conjunction with the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation (IPSF)
– the pharmacists of the future.
The thrill of it all, of course, just begins with the official program, the
whole of which can be seen on the website: www.fip.org.
It is hard to find words to describe the feeling of meeting pharmacists and
peers from all over the world, making potentially meaningful business and career
friends, all while discovering a foreign country. It’s difficult to describe
because every participant makes it their own, personal, individual experience.
Encourage the young pharmacists you know to come to Nice and enjoy the
experience of a lifetime!
